Safety relays for the speed control of escalators

In escalators, safety relays ensure that the system stops automatically

  • if there is an uncontrolled change of direction of the step band or
  • if the speed exceeds 1.2 times the nominal speed.

The stopping of the steps is initiated by two independent standard relays whose contacts are connected in series with the circuit. In order for this system to work reliably, it must be protected by a safety relay according to the Machinery Directive. This prevents an uncontrolled movement of the escalator or a failure of the stop system.

In principle, all Hengstler safety relays are suitable for escalator applications. The relays of Series H-480 are used particularly frequently by the escalator industry.
