Hengstler Statement Concerning Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)
Hengstler’s commitment to operating sustainably does not end at product purchase. We offer environmentally sound product take-back and recycling programs to business and consumer customers, respectively, in many countries around the world. These offerings are designed to satisfy specific customer and geographic needs while maximizing the reuse, recycling, and/or environmental disposal of replaced and end-of-life products, parts, and waste of electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE).
Hengstler’s Commitment
Hengstler is committed to a safe and healthy environment and strives to ensure compliance with WEEE legislation across the world. Hengstler and all products sold by Hengstler will comply with WEEE legislation by:
Hengstler continues to work with WEEE consortia, recycling suppliers and our distributors / resellers to provide efficient processes for complying with WEEE obligations and we continue to refine those processes. Hengstler closely monitors developments regarding upcoming WEEE regulations and their transposition into national laws, as well as changes to existing WEEE and Ecodesign regulations, to ensure we continue meeting upcoming requirements by the date they become effective.
The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive is a European Community directive that became European Law in February 2003 and was then later replaced by a revised WEEE Directive (2012/19/EU) on 13 August 2012. Its aim is to reduce the amount of electrical and electronic products that end up in the waste stream. The directive sets collection, recovery, and recycling targets for different types of electrical goods sold in the European Union.
EU WEEE: Obligations for Buyers of Electrical and Electronic Equipment
As of 13 August 2005, in each EU member state where a WEEE scheme has been implemented, disposal of EEE waste other than in accordance with the scheme is prohibited. Generally, the schemes require collection and recycling of a broad range of EEE products, including printers, encoders and counters. Hengstler products (printers, cutters, counters and encoders) fall within the scope of the directive and the implemented member state regulations. All such Hengstler products that have reached end-of-life must not be disposed as general waste, but instead put into the collection and recycling system provided in the relevant jurisdiction.
EU WEEE: Collection and Recycling of WEEE
Hengstler takes responsibility for the collection and recycling of WEEE where Hengstler is legally responsible for those obligations. In other countries, where the Business Partner is the legally responsible party, we expect the Hengstler Business Partner to take responsibility for all applicable obligations related to the importing and sale of Hengstler products including notification of authorities, reporting, showing registration numbers and/or visible fees on customer invoices, and collection and treatment of WEEE.
In Germany, the European directives on electrical and electronic equipment have been implemented in the Electrical Act (ElektroG). The objective of this law is to avoid waste from electrical and electronic equipment and to promote reuse, recycling and other forms of recovery in order to reduce the amount of waste to be disposed of.
The ElektroG gives rise to some obligations for manufacturers, importers, retailers and end users of devices that fall under the law.
Hengstler GmbH is registered under WEEE Reg No: DE 90544821
Both Hengstler and its partner resellers have responsibilities as producers and/or distributors under national laws implementing the WEEE Directive regarding the collection, return and recycling of EEE at its end of life.
At Hengstler, we offer customers that purchase products directly from Hengstler (“Direct End User Customers”) or from our partner resellers the chance to recycle their old EEE free of charge.
In order that the additional costs arising from the obligation to take back the equipment are not passed on to our product price, we would like to fulfil our obligation to dispose of old equipment in accordance with the following recycling scheme and thus continue to facilitate the smooth distribution of the products.
