By far, the most successful kiosk is the “ATM”. It provides clients of a financial institution around the globe, 24 hour access to financial transactions in a public space, without the need for a cashier, human clerk or bank teller. Automated Teller Machines were first installed in the late 1960’s and have been a staple of the retail landscape ever since. The ATM has now been expanded to facilitate many functions beyond cash dispensing, such as adding credits to prepaid cellular telephones and performing transfers between accounts. Using an ATM, customers can access their bank accounts in order to make cash withdrawals, check their account, print statements, and even purchase stamps and lottery tickets.
